A little About me…

Hi my name is Sandy Hatherall, a watercolour & crochet artist based in Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia where I live with my family, our dog and cat. Once a big household of 8 with 3 sons and 3 daughters at home, now it’s myself and my husband. Since they have flourished into adulthood and moved out to live their lives with partners and their own children, I now have more time for me and that means more me time to paint & crochet (yay!).

Watercolour;

Since 2020 I have built up my watercolour skills through different types of art courses & tutorials to grow my understanding and knowledge of this wonderful medium.

I get inspiration for my paintings from the local plant life and landscapes while I’m driving through the countryside or out walking with my husband. When I’m not able to venture outside I get inspiration from Pinterest & the many photos I have taken (I’ve turned into a bit of a photo pest haha! always stopping to take photo’s of things that catch my eye).

Crochet;

I learnt to crochet when I was 9 or 10 years old from my Aunt. As a young girl I was crocheting granny squares, doilies, table runners, dolls blankets and dolls clothes. As an adult I started crocheting baby blankets when my relatives or friends were expecting babies. But there was a period of about 20 years where I hadn’t crocheted anything. I took it up again in 2022 when my children started having children of their own, making baby blankets for them. Then I tried amigurumi plushie tutorials and found my love for crochet growing again. I get so much joy seeing the excitement, love and appreciation when I share my craft with others.

In my spare time, when I'm not spending it with family and friends, I am in my art room painting and improving my skills even further, crocheting, or curled up with a book. When my daughters visit, they like to come into the room and I mentor them further in their skills, as they have an artistic flare too.
